Bullying

There's a lot in the news today and almost every day about the phenomenon of bullying. Sometimes we think it only occurs among students of all ages -- from elementary school through college. But that is untrue! Although some of the cases of student bullying have had horrendous outcomes, there are also examples of bullying in the workplace with equally devastating outcomes.

You may remember the case of the college student in New Jersey who was bullied online for his sexual orientation and subsequently committed suicide. Jean Eva at Soft Skills for Tough Issues and Beyond the Horizons Consulting, LLC, recently led a Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (CISD) which involved an employee who had been bullied constantly by her supervisor. She had committed suicide, and her coworkers were devastated! As a certified CISD counselor, I helped them through the initial stages of shock and grief over the loss of their coworker.

Jean Eva at Soft Skills for Tough Issues has helped many individuals who were being bullied in a number of workplaces, AND they have regained their equilibrium. She has also helped those who were being bullied in a personal relationship! Bullied partners or bullied employees in my care have gone on to rebuild their self-esteem. In some cases bullied individuals have exited the relationship. In other cases, bullied partners have learned how to express themselves assertively and have created new, satisfying relationships. Some bullied employees have gone on to excel in the original workplace and others have made successful moves to other employment!

Don't ever underestimate the pain and anxiety that you or a loved one is experiencing due to being bullied. In many cases, including the phenomenon of being stalked, this experience can be likened to being a victim of terroristic threats and can lead to a diagnosis of post-traumatic stress disorder.

We are here to help you to understand the phenomenon of bullying and then to instill in you the skills to deal with situations in which you have been feeling powerless. Give us a call today at 505-670-8555 !
